Earth & Water originally started out as D&J Landscaping Company in 1978 as a Landscape maintenance business, by a young energetic family man named Joe Mack. He was looking for ways to make a living and still be outdoors with mother nature. Starting with a pickup truck, one lawn mower and the help of family and friends he named the business D&J Landscaping Service, using the first initial from his wife’s name and his name. After several years of seminars, conferences, training courses and the joining of several associations such as RINLA and IPPCA, Joe has grown to be a highly respected entrepreneur in the green industry. With the help of faithful customers and the experience he had established through many small and large residential as well as commercial landscape design projects he had made a mark for himself.
Attending numerous flower shows, tradeshows and water garden seminars sparked a new love for Joe in the water garden sector of the industry. In 1988 Joe & Donna moved to Lincoln with their family where Joe built his first pond with all the same mistakes most home owners make. What a disaster! It had leaks, algae, dead fish and the filtration was terrible. With the overwhelming demand for ponds and waterfalls, Joe decided to change the name of the company to encompass both divisions of the business and so the business became Earth & Water. Earth for the landscaping division and Water for the water gardening division.
Joe has held several speaking seminars on water gardens which include the RI Spring Flower Show. Its amazing that the most exciting part of work is still the building and designing of water features for clients. This is because every project is different and unique still having the same outcome of a natural water feature, with crystal clear water, beautiful fresh plants and low maintenance.

From designing landscapes and water gardens on residential and commercial properties to maintaining existing landscapes and ponds, we cover the entire spectrum. With over 30 years in the landscape industry and more than 25 years in the water gardening business, our expertise and capabilities are limitless.

Our work spans throughout Rhode Island, Massachusetts and parts of Connecticut. We are very active within the landscape and water design industry as we are part of many organizations such as the North American Water Garden Society, The Rhode Island Nursery and Landscape Association, the International Professional Pond Contractors Association. You may have noticed our display at the Rhode Island Flower Show or the Rhode Island Home Show.
